I decided not to go down South to see the family -- I wouldn't be able to make the funeral, so the point was a bit moot. Although it would have been good to support the family during this time, it was just a but infeasible for me to make that trek at this juncture. I have decided to go home for Thanksgiving instead, being that the strain on everyone would be much less during that time.
I have decided to be particularly brave and ambitious in my knitting. Sure, knitting Christmas gifts for ALL of my co-workers may seem ambitious, but it was nothing more than a small army of accessories. I am (wait for it)... knitting a SWEATER. That's right, I'm finally doing it.
I was going to wait until I could buy all of the yarn outright. I thought that I didn't have enough yarn of any one kind to complete such a project. However, if my calculations are correct, I have enough Yarn Bee Mosaic Twist (discontinued) in a beautiful variegated blueish grey. I searched Ravelry, and much to my dismay -- this yarn pools. I mean, bad. SO.... I strung a bit of dark silver-grey cotton yarn along with the blue to level it out. This little bit of light-fingering weight yarn works wonders -- it tones the whole thing down, and evens out the work! Plus, the cotton adds a nice, smooth sheen in places. It's quite nice.
I haven't gotten past the plain, stockinette section in the back. We'll see how the rest turns out!
Other than that, I have just been going to work, going to rehearsal, and going to bed. Not too interesting, but that's what you do sometimes. I have, however, met with a dear friend of mine. After a series of unfortunate career events, he has re-evaluated what he does. Right now, he is helping me with some free career consultation -- incredible stuff! I am fine-tuning my profile on LinkedIn so that I can hopefully network and find a decent job before moving to New York... whenever that is. Hopefully within a year. That would be great.
