SO… I’m sure you are all wondering about this epic quest on which I have embarked. Imagine, if you will:
I am knitting a sweater.
I know, I know… that’s no huge feat. However, this is my first sweater. Not one to be logical or shirk at a challenge, this is the yarn I am using:
That’s right, Bernat Max. It is notoriously “thick and thin” in all the wrong ways, and a bear to work with. That’s why I am knitting it along with this stuff:
Jo-Ann Sensations Rainbow Boucle in brown and blue. After I tried three times to knit a blanket with this stuff, I had to sit it in time-out for weeks. It is just as problematic as the other yarn.
Oh, but wait, Virginia – I’m not done yet. I will be knitting it with these:
Because anything smaller than a turkey baster simply wouldn’t do.
Naturally, my gauge is right at 1.25 stitches per inch, so I had a hard time finding a pattern.
Meh, no problem – I’ll make one up. Sure, even though I’m working with pool cues for needles, two verymischievous yarns, and have never knitted a sweater before in my life, I am qualified to “wing it”.
What is wrong with me? (Rhetorical question -- don't want to hear the answer to that one)
I blame Brenda Dayne of CastOn! (a podcast for knitters). Every time I hear the “today’s sweater” theme, I feel somehow emasculated – even for a guy with pointy sticks. I mean, that’s bad.
I am taking semi-diligent notes, so when I get it finished I will post the results.
Did I mention that it is going to be a raglan?
